How many times have you sat in front of your computer trying to figure out how it all works in an online business? If you’re anything like I was, then we’re talking hours and hours of hair pulling, thinking you will never get the hang of it and almost throwing the towel in on several occasions… This becomes really stressful and you feel such an idiot because you think you have fallen for some ‘internet scam.’

It was ridiculous the feelings of inadequacy I experienced and all because someone, trying to make a quick sale told me that working online is a ‘walk in the park’ and so long as I could switch on a computer, I could do it. My frustration and anxiety knew no bounds and I figured out that the only person who could change this was me. I believe that fear can be conquered through knowledge so I set out to gain that knowledge.

After spending hundreds of dollars trying to ‘get the next best thing’ that would explain what fits in where and what I needed to be doing, I made myself a promise that when I understood how it worked, I would educate others. I want to show you that an online income is something everyone can achieve, but only when they understand the entire process.

Why Is It So Difficult To Grasp For Most People?

How an Online Business works is a simple and straightforward process and the reason most people (97%) struggle to make money online is ‘they just don’t understand the process fully’.

I remember when I started and would hear terminology such as ‘your Thank You page’ and ‘your Download page’, your Confirmation email and Autoresponder etc and think to myself “what the heck is all of this and where do I start?”.

5 Basic Concepts Explaining How an Online Business Works

1. You have a Squeeze page – you will have seen these when you surf the Internet. A Squeeze Page (sometimes referred to as a Lead Capture Page) is a one-page website that has lots of information on it and all to get you to put your name and email address on that page. This normally results in a free gift or something like that. If you hear the terminology ‘Call to Action’, it normally refers to offering people something at your site in exchange for their details.
2. You put your details in on what is commonly referred to as an ‘Opt-in Form’ and you are then instructed to go to your Inbox and click on the link contained within an email that is waiting for you. This is the Confirmation email.
3. You should then receive a Thank You Page that does just that, it thanks you for visiting the site. Many Internet marketers overlook this part and in my eyes, they lose a bit of credibility because I feel they care less about me and more about making a purchase from me.
4. You then receive an email with a link that you click on that takes you to the Download Page and within that there is a clickable link to your FREE product.
5. In today’s Internet Marketing industries, it is more important that you have credibility in your customer and potential customer’s eyes. People buy from people and not from systems now so the more personal you can make your correspondence with them, the better and quicker your business will grow.

Why Do Internet Marketers Want People to Give Their Name and Email Address?

Another saying you may come across is ‘the money is in your list’. This list is a list of people who have given their name and email addresses in Step 1 above. The whole concept of building your business is that you nurture a relationship with the people on ‘your list’. You communicate with them regularly but not always to sell, you give them free products, you alert them to other sites that may be of interest to them, you send the videos you made periodically etc. You DO NOT keep pushing products at them because if you do, there is an option at the bottom of every email you send them that allows them to tell you ‘enough is enough and I want no more of this’.

I use this facility when I receive a barrage of affiliate offers or just continuous email selling me their own products as it is by far ‘the next best thing’.

No, please do not do this. Build your relationship with the people on your list, treat them as REAL people that they are and do NOT sell them anything. Instead offer them solutions to problems they may be facing or could be facing in the future. You should always try and put yourself in the shoes of the potential customer and always ask yourself before promoting anything “now how would this help ME in what I would like to be/doing.”

You see, once you grasp the fundamentals that you are dealing with real people who MAY need something (your potential customers) and you incorporate this into everything you do to make money online, you will succeed.
