Progress Report 100712 – One Step Forward — Two Steps Back
In everything there is a learning curve. This is so very true of Internet Marketing. Today I received a reminder of that fact.
Today should have been a very productive day. In spite of all my interruptions, I managed to mark 4 things from today’s task list towards getting up a website and auto responder newsletter. I know a lot about Internet Marketing, about setting up websites, editing html, the Internet, etc. Obviously, though, it is not enough.
The first part of the day was spent rummaging through my resources and making a plan of action for today. I pulled out a product that contains a squeeze page, an OTO page a download page and MRR/PLR rights. Then I found two videos which included html sites and the rights to post them on my website. My plan was to setup the two movie pages and add opt-in forms below them, setup two autoresponder accounts for the leads, and setup the squeeze page and download pages for the resell product. Then, with the remaining time, I would post the newsletter articles into the autoresponder.
I setup two email accounts for the autoresponders, and setup the autoresponders but did not populate them with the newsletters. The next task was to upload the first flash video web page and edit the html file where the video plays to add an opt-in form. It looked simple enough, but looks can sometimes be deceiving. After several hours refining the page, getting all the text fonts, sizes and arrangements with the opt-in forms just the way I wanted them, I uploaded it to the website. This is where things went south!
When I used Kompozer to display the page, it showed the flash video spacer and the text and opt-in forms right where I wanted them. However, when I uploaded it to the server, the page came out with unformatted text and no video! It seems that when Camtasia Studio 5 creates a flash player web page, the page cannot be edited, at least not by an amateur like me.
After wasting the rest of this evening trying to make it work, I took a look at the alternatives. My first thought was to create an intermediate step page where a visitor would choose between filling in the opt-in form or watching the video. This does not suit my plan at all.
My original idea was to direct visitors to the video. Under the video was to be an opt-in form where they can download a free copy of the video to use on their own site when they sign up for my newsletter — Video Tips for Internet Marketing. The other video was or the same purpose, but with a different movie. The other product site was to be a companion to, and an upsell to the free subscription.
At this point, I have to decide whether to spend time researching and learning about editing Camtasia’s page or scrapping that project and work on something that is more immediately productive.
Well, it is already tomorrow, so I better go get a nap before I have to take on the day.
God Bless
Buck
