Overnight-Success and Push-Button Riches
Understanding Online Success – # 1
“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.”
author unknown, but often attributed to Hitler’s strategy.
How many times have you seen overnight-success stories on make-money-online ads? They sound like:
“I was tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, but then I discovered the secret of how to make $250,000 in only one short week! You can do this working one hour per week!.”
Having followed this business and the people in it for the last four to five years, I made a little discovery of my own.
- They didn’t “discover” a damn thing
- They didn’t make the money they claimed
- It took them a lot longer than they claimed
- They aren’t millionaires working from a laptop on their hammock at the beach.
You see, I have had the priviledge to see two of these overnight success stories come to life and the authors of these products grow-up so to speak. And I was able to get insight to their backgrounds. Here is a more accurate picture of their IM life.
These men started out not much different from you or me. They saw the ads and wanted to get some of that overnight cash and to live the lifestyles of their dreams. Like us, they spent a lot of time trying and failing to make the kind of money they wanted online. One was in Internet marketing for years. But, then one day, they each bought a course from one of the Gurus, and they bought the upsells and they bought the coaching package, or went to their personal training class. After 3-6 months or more of personal coaching by their mentors, they “discovered” the secret and “made” the big money they show in the ads. And the money they “made” does not reflect how much they spent to get it.
So, why the big lie? They call it “playing the game.” Frankly, it is because that’s what they were taught to do to make more sales.
What about the money? Assuming they aren’t outright lying with the figures, they didn’t deduct the costs of advertisements, or their partners’ share.
And how is it that I know these things? I have been watching this business for the last four to five years. I have seen their ads, sometimes their courses, and I have also read or listened to their mentors. In both cases, these men were mentioned as being in courses with their mentors up to one year or longer before they made their so called discoveries.
Does that mean you can’t make big money online? Oh, no! The big money is there, but unless you are the very rare exception to the rule, you won’t get it in your first week, or even your first month. It takes time to learn, work and money to grow your business to the point of getting big overnight cash.
You can start off small, with one domain name, hosting account and a free autoresponder service, and learn and work part time. Then as your business earns an income, reinvest it for one good course, mentor and tools.
Here are the first steps to your online success:
- Quit chasing push-button and overnight riches
- Designate your Business Time (Work/learning schedule)
- Plan your business foundation
- Plan your business strategy
- Commit to your work schedule
- Work it every day
I have a lot more to say about this, but that is all for today.

You are spot on here! I’ve come across a couple of “overnight successes” as well and they’ll tell you… it’s NEVER overnight. It just looks like that because people started paying attention.
I once heard that it said that you should sell someone hope and then give them what they need. An interesting thought…
